Bled is straight off a postcard, the setting for a fairytale and its princess. There is a beautiful glacier lake with blue green water, an island in the center and a castle rising above it. Is this for real? Ahh, Slovenia. The drive up there wasn't half bad either. Mountainside towns popping up around every corner. Castles and churches with ringing bell towers.
We walked the 4 miles all the way around the lake, as well as up one side of a mountain to the castle. Let's just say our feet were sore at the end. We fueled up with a picnic lunch that we got at the open air market in Ljubljana earlier that morning. Fresh rolls topped with tomato, avocado, and olive oil.
We walked through another small town and drove the tiny medieval streets of Skofja Loka. Such a beautiful countryside surrounded by souring mountain peaks. Austria was just about 30 minutes north of the region we were visiting.
Happy... but tired from all the walking!
